February 3, 2017 life changed for Ethan Duzan. While skiing up north, Ethan hit a pole. The doctors compare it to a car moving at 40 mph crashing into the pole – only Ethan didn’t have the protection of a car. Immediately after the accident, Ethan endured a lifesaving heart surgery which lasted 25 hours. We are continually thanking God for that.
Since the accident Ethan has undergone over 53 surgeries. He lost his entire left leg. His last two surgeries, February 21 and 25 were performed at the Cleveland Clinic. The surgeries removed infection from his left pelvis, a previous placed screw, and parts of the bone that had been steeped in infection. They also did some work on his stump to create a better shape. The previous shape of the stump was causing extreme bed sores.
March 5 Ethan rode by ambulance to Mary Free Bed Rehab center and has had many hours of rehabilitation. He’s made improvements along the way including having the feeding tube removed. He still has a wound vac and is looking forward to future steps in his recovery.
On his “want to” list is to purchase a car and be able to sit behind the wheel like every other teen. One goal for this spring is that he would find a hand bike so he can ride. He loves bike riding – one of many things he hasn’t been able to do since the accident. There have been many ups and downs this past year. We are thanking God for his continual presence and his power to propel Ethan forward to total healing and restoration. Ethan’s future is unknown – just like everyone of us. But, he knows he won’t face it alone.
THIS YEAR WE WILL AGAIN DONATE ALL PROCEEDS FROM OUR RAFFLE AND AUCTION DIRECTLY TO MEET ETHAN’S NEEDS.
PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING WITH DONATIONS OF PRIZES OR BY SENDING A CHECK WITH “ETHAN” WRITTEN IN THE MEMO.
Every Christmas we bless each person who walks through the door with a free hot meal, praise and worship from our live band, a word of encouragement, assistance with clothing needs and an individually wrapped Christmas gift to take with them.
